I am making console rod holders from Joe Kriz' drawings and I'm all set with the wood but can't find 1 1/2" 200 psi PVC. I assume that building codes require 330 psi for home construction in this area because that is all that I can find.
If anyone knows of a source of 1 1/2" 200 psi PVC in NH, ME or MA I'd appreciate hearing about it. Or if anyone has used the 330 psi to build rod holders I'd be interested to know how it works out. I assume the 200 psi has thinner walls which would be easier to flare if I decide to try that? Thanks.
You are correct. Most places carry just the schedule 40 which is thicker wall.
I have to special order 20 foot lengths of the 220 psi pipe. I usually also have to pay for shipping.
That's why my prices may seem high to some people...
Talk to your local lumber yard or hardware store to see if they can order it for you.
Thanks, I expected that I might have to special order the PVC but thought I'd try here first. I was going to buy a set from you but I had to buy a longer piece of teak for another project and wound up with enough left for the rod holders. I also think that I need shorter rod holders than the 14" that you show on the drawing and that I assumed was the length of the ones you sell on your store.
I also found that the cushions that I ordered have slightly different dimensions for the snaps on the cushions. They run between 9 1/8" and 9 1/2" between the snaps. So I may have to adjust the dimensions between the holes.
By the time I order the right stuff and pay shipping and ruin a couple I'll probably wish that I had bought your completed pair of rod holders with teak mounts. But I need another winter project and I'll get to use the teak.
I encourage everyone to make their own if they have the desire.
I only have them available once and awhile and mostly for convenience for those that aren't the do-it-yourselfers....
Standard cushions have the snaps about 9 1/8 inches apart. This of course does vary.
The holes in the rod tubes are 9 1/8 inches apart so that puts the center of the teak blocks at 9 1/8 inches. This leaves a little leeway, one way or the other, if the cushion snaps aren't quite 9 1/8 inches on center...
