Here a short video of a guy flipping his Montauk 190 at Mavericks in Half Moon Bay Ca recently. Boat was a total loss, and ended up on the jetty rocks. This guy does this often, but it is amazing neither him or the photographer had vests on, and it was a 20' plus day.

I saw a still photo of the fellows out there before the capsizing. No PFD's and the one fellow was entranced with his I-phone totally unconcerned and pre occupied from observing the conditions. Those were some nasty waves for that surfing competition. Both my wife and I were busy that day. We have headed down there in the past just to look at the ocean......surfing aside.

Here is a news report and I don't know about the skipper but not watching where he is, no PFD's in 20ft waves, must think he is invincible in the unsinkable Whaler.

Just watch the video with the comments made.

Did he lose power? Great video but he should have been able to outrun that wave, he didn’t even try.

WhalerBob,
Good to hear from you. I have watched/seen the Maverick's waves and nothing to fool with. Just awesome and humbling. As a fisherman you would cancel for that day. Pretty obvious from pictures and comments from others that the boat should not have been out there. Nothing to do with the running of the boat....operator stupidity. Very very lucky no loss of life. I hope all is well with you.

Hey Garris! Been a while since I’ve been on here but I’m getting her ready for another season and always come back here for great info.
Great video. There are a couple bars a mile offshore of the Ocean City MD that get a good break after a storm. It’s sort of tempting to go in and ride one sometimes but not worth being “that guy”.
