Hello, I presume you're a Hoosier fan, your team looked pretty good last night but Ohio State is loaded with talent (again) and are going to be tough to beat. I'm a Michigan State guy so we feel lucky to have beaten Urban Meyer two of the 3 games he's lost over the past few years.

I used www.uship.com/boats/ to ship my 2003 BW 160 Dauntless from Ft. Lauderdale to Michigan. They broker the shipment to pre-qualified shippers to get good quality at a reasonable price. It was about half the cost the marina's shipper quoted me. My only issue was the marina (who sells BW) underestimated the weight of the package. They maintained it was a total of 1500 lbs. Well, that is the dry weight of the boat only. With the motor, trailer, gear, and 25 gallons of gas it was more like 2600 lbs. As there are weight limits to the transport vehicles, this was a big problem when they went to load and move the boat. Fortunately, the shipper was able to accommodate the extra weight but the trip took an extra day because he had rearrange his load and couldn't travel as fast. I had already agreed to a price but in fairness, paid him and extra sum to account for the weight variance. The shipper will ask you about dimensions and weights, make sure the information you give them is correct. BW, Mercury, Continental (trailer company), all have that data on their websites. Gas is 6.2 lbs per gallon (approximately based on temperature and ethanol content).

The Uship people offer shipping insurance as well which my insurance guy said was a really good idea. My marine insurance didn't cover interstate shipping by someone other than the owner (me) of the boat.

Lastly, I had the boat shrink wrapped before moving it. Really kept it from being damaged by road debris, bugs, dirt and kept all the contents inside the boat (seat covers fly off on such trips pretty easily). Also, it kept the boat from being easily vandalized.

Hope this helps.

Is the trailer usable or do you need a flatbed?

It is on a trailer, hull only. As far as I know trailer is good to go.
