Member Posts: 11 Comments: 1 Joined: 06/06/17	I have an opportunity to buy a decently priced 50hp four stroke Honda Outboard for my 13ft Boston Whaler. Will it work? Will it be too heavy? The model number is BF50A and the dry weight is 214 lbs.

Member Posts: 25 Comments: 0 Joined: 01/12/17	A new 40hp Mercury is 260 pounds so I would go for it if it were me. Can you have too much power? I have seen a 50hp outboard on a 14' Jon boat, and it looked FUN! Add the extra weight to the back of your boat and see if it sits too low in the water. I would also think you need to make sure your transom is in good condition.
