I bought a Yamaha F40 for my 1982 13ft whaler.(2C5202) It has been redone with a center console and ice chest seat. I have 10 1/4 x 14 pitch Yamaha aluminum prop that turns the motor 5100 rpm at about 31 mph. I want to get as close to 6000 rpm as I can using a SS propeller. Any ideas on what it would take? Am I looking at a stainless steel 10 1/2 x 12 or 13?

Thanks
Drew

Aluminum props do not perform as well as stainless props.
Yamaha makes two decent stainless prop models. Painted and polished.

Don't be focused on size since it is not universal across models or brands. The blade design makes a huge difference.

I would start with a 10-1/2" x 12" Performance 3-Blade, Yamaha part # MAR-GYT3B-03-12.

Expect WOT to be ~6k and 32-34 mph running light and solo.

Well, I bought a 10 1/4 x 12 Power Tech and get about the same performance. I gets about 2-3 hundred more RPM and about the same speed. ????????

Anyone have an 11" prop on a 13 footer?

Reel. I have a 1998 Anniversary 13' Classic #12 with a FI F 40. I use the Yamaha SS prop listed above and, I think I have a prior post with the performance numbers. The motor is mounted all the way down or lowest position. Depending on wind, current, sea condition and fuel condition I have inconsistently hit top speed of 36 mph at 5600 rpm's. That is with no load by myself. Makes for an uneasy ride. Consistantly the boat runs 5500 rpm's at 34 mph. The FI F40 Yamaha is making 40hp at 5500rpm's per the owners manual. Some motors make more power at the top of their recommended limit or up closer the rev limiter. You would find that out testing an 11" prop. Please post the information if you get the opportunity to test one. I will do the same. Thank you, Ed.

If you don't have a tach, you need to correct this before proceeding.

If we don't know the WOT rpm's, we can't tell what adjustment in size is appropriate.
