Joe mentioned in another thread (kickers) that smaller ETEC's 9hp(?) - 30 hp(my guess) were on the way. Yaaaay! I have not heard nor read any of these whispers. Is there info on this out there that I haven't stumbled across ? A five star mechanic at our BW dealer hinted (but would deny it in court) that the 25-30 hp Mercs had Nissan/Tohatsu under the hood. All the engine dimensions listed on both websites are identical. Hmmmmm....switch and bait ??? I am getting dain brammage. Paul

Paul,

All small Mercurys are now made in China at a plant jointly operated by Mercury and Tohatsu.

Evinrude does plan to expand their E-Tec line down to 9.9 HP but when the line will be filled out, nobody knows.

Neither of these bits of information have been secrets or are even news.

Tom -

Joe mentioned in that thread (about kickers) that the 9.9 ETEC is due in mid-2008. That is news. As you mentioned the news that they plan to fill out the line isn't news...but the idea of a set timeframe IS news (at least to me).

Joe - did you hear this through the grapevine or from a trusted source?!

Dave

A masters program has consumed me for the past 3 years and needless to say, I am a little behind. All info is greatly appreciated and I am getting caught up as quickly as possible ! Thanks, Paul

Dave,

I heard it through the grapevine of dealers. That's why I really haven't announced it officially other than that one comment....

Supposedly the 9.9 is due out sometime in 2008 from what I hear....
It could be a 2009 model but not sure.... June, July is the next model year....
I wish BRP would let people know a little more about the upcoming products...
They really need to get with the smaller engine program as they dropped the small Johnson line several years ago other than the outsourcing of some smaller kickers....

Wish I had more to tell everyone..... Maybe we should write BRP?????

Joe -

No problem, I was just curious. I think a small ETEC will sell very well as a kicker and in the small, aluminum boat market here in the midwest. I grew up in an aluminum boat with progressively larger motors...that's how I got into boating - started with 6 HP Seahorse Johnson, then 10 HP Mercury and by high school, my bro and I were running around in duelling 16 ft. aluminum boats with matching 15 hp Yamahas...what a blast.

Anyway, I agree - BRP needs to plug that gap in their lineup. I bet their dealers are clamoring for it as well.
