This boat has an interesting story. I looked at this boat 4 years ago. The orig owner was selling it. The boat broke the mooring and ended up on a stone jetty. It stayed in the water for 5 days afterwards. There was exposed foam in 4-5 areas. I used a moisture meter w/probe and all exposed foam was wet 4/5" in all exposed area's. The boat otherwise was garaged each winter since new, motor had low hours, etc....I passed as I knew the foam would never quite dry..it would take years.

Six months back I was in a position where I was trading an 18 Outrage and looking for a smaller whaler and cash. I found a Dealer in the Cape that had such a deal. Well I see the same Montauk I looked at 4 years earlier and was blown away. The guy gave up selling it and left it in his garage until this year and decided to trade it for a new boat. I checked out the foam and it was dry...used the same probe and it was dry all the way. It seemed fate so I went for the deal.

I am doing the repairs slow and easy. Removing some foam and replacing with a epoxy/glass/faring mixture that I have had good success with. Once built up I follow standard layers of eppi mat and glass. So far its going well. I have not even looked at the interior yet, want to finish the hull. I will do the hull/bottom with Interlux 2pt epoxy primer and follow with Interlux Perfection sprayed with an HVLP rig.

I have new rubrail and drain tubes from Sue @ Twin Cities, and the new bow light/chock which should really make the outside really pop!

I will update the pictures as I complete work.

Ok one of the worst days ever. I am out of work beginning of October. I need to make fast money.

I will offer the Montauk here first then the alternate places. I will take as is where is $5500, you keep the extra and new parts, etc. No trailer, but flying top is included. The major work to the hull is done, bit of putty, final sand then prime. I have new set of brass tubes, rub rail and bot light. Have cans of primer (opend last weekend) and qt of perfection. Heck buy it in the next 10 days and I will throw in an HVLP spray system (its huge and self contained). Boats in driveway on my stands.

Dang! sorry to hear that. I'm not in the market. Good luck with the sale and with finding work.

Thanks on both fronts.

I may have MS or some other neurological desease..its not diagnosed yet, working on the boat was becoming difficult anyways. Are there fellow Whalers that have a similar illness and still hit the water? I hate to think this may be the end of my boating career also!!

And as I said, anyone here who wants her, I will offer sweet deal...even let you keep it where she is for winter if needed.

Also does the folks here feel 5k for the boat I have in shape she is presently in a decent price?
