I am loooking for a used Boston Whaler 14 to 17 ft and I need to know when did the whalers start being made with a 4 stroke motor as opposed to a two stroke. Thes reason I ask is that I want to use my whaler on Lake Tahoe.

Thanks for your help,

You can still buy new Whalers with a 2 stroke and in the old days, Whaler never sold engines. You just bought the boat from Whaler and the dealer put on the engine of your choice...

So what you are looking for is ANY Boston Whaler with a 4 stroke on it...
Or, for Lake Tahoe, you can use clean 2 stroke engines....

Basically I am looking for a Whaler that is used that I can use in Lake Tahoe I found 17' Whaler in Oakland for around 6500 in on a scale of 1to 10 condition a seven the only problem is its a two stroke. I am getting so confused and I don't know what to do I think maybe we should just stick to golf. Can we get something under 10,000. Thank you for all you help.

Ana,

Yes, you should be able to find a nice 15' to 17' Whaler with a 4 stroke engine on it for $10k or under depending on how new the engine is.

You will find many nice older Classic Whalers with the newer 4 stroke engines on them.
We will try not to confuse you. I would stick to looking for a 4 stroke for your needs.

The older Whalers don't show up everyday. You have to keep looking and know what you want.
Now that we know basically what you want, maybe someone here has one, or knows of one for sale in the California area.

So, a 15' to 17' older Classic Whaler hull with a newer 4 stroke engine so you can use it on Lake Tahoe.....

Anyone????

Thanks for your help I guess now its time to be patient and wait for the right whaler to come along. We put a hitch on our car today and my husband is making room on the side of the house for storage of the boat so we are ready. Thanks again for all your help and once we find a boat be sure I will be back on this sight asking questions.Smile
