I currently own a 1976 13' Whaler with a 1981 35 HP Evinrude. I am looking to repower with a 4 stroke.

What would the performance difference be between the older 35 Evinrude and a new 25hp Mercury 4 Stroke?

I have also been looking at other 4 stroke engines and wanted to know if the weight difference is going to have a major effect on performance.

These are the weights of the various models I have been looking at:

Existing 35 2 stroke Evinrude - 121 LBS

4 Stroke Engines
40HP Mercury - 210 LBS
25HP Mercury - 157 LBS
40HP Honda - 205 LBS
30HP Honda - 174 LBS
25HP Honda - 174 LBS
40HP Yamaha - 183 LBS

40 HP Evinrude E-Tec - 240 LBS *** I was surprised by this as Evinrude claims this is a lighter weight engine compared to their 4 stroke counterparts.

Magnuman,

I think I would go for the 40hp Yamaha.... The boat is rated for 40hp and that to me is a better choice. I don't think a 25hp would be enough for me on my prior 13'....
I had the same motor you have on your 13' and I wouldn't have wanted any less..

Maybe someone else here might have that Yamaha engine on their 13' and can tell us more...

Unfortunately, the E-tec 40hp has the same block as the 50 and 60hp.... That's why it is so heavy.
