I can't find the # on my Boat. It is supposed to be a 1964 13 ft and I think it is a Sport model.

I would like to know so I can try to bring back the original
beauty but on the title the # is NCZ2434HOL64

Thank You, BOB

Welcome Bob,

I'm also an owner of a 13' Sport - mine being a 1972. Here's a link that may help determne what year your boat is:

http://www.whalercentral.com/readarti...icle_id=61

I'm not familiar with the pre-1970 hull I.D's, but I believe that it is located on the inside hull in the center of transom. I've also heard that there may be a designation within the front anchor locker.

According to the link, the hull ID should be a numeric number for pre-1970 boats - not alpha-numeric.

I'm sure there are many folks out here that can provide additional info.

Denny

I just checked my front anchor locker and no number, just the one inside the rear splashwell. I am going to contact TPWD and BW tomorrow and get more info. I will pass it on. I would also like to bring my 17 Montauk, aka "Bad Liver", back to original. Are owners manuals available ? Thanks! Paul

Bob,

If your boat is a 1964 model then it does not have a Hull Identification Number (HIN) either. It does have a stenciled number somewhere on it, either inside the transom and/or inside the bow locker. If the inside of your hull has been painted or otherwise altered, the stenciled number may be obscured.

Some states require a HIN in order to register a boat but if the boat is old, older than 1972 then the state has to assign a HIN to the boat. I suspect you will find that NCZ2434HOL64 is a HIN assigned by the state of North Carolina. "NCZ" is probably the Manufacturer's Identification Code (MIC) for "home built" boats in North Carolina.

Paul,

If your boat is a 1970 model, then it is not a Montauk.

I contacted TPWD today about the non-matching numbers on the title (HIN) and the model # on the splashwell. They said the first 3 numbers indicated the mfg, the second numbers were the model number and so on but their explanation still left no reason as to why they did not match in some manner. There would be no way at all to match my boat to the title. TPWD employee insisted the HIN was on the boat somewhere (its not there!) so they are sending a Texas game warden out to help solve this issue as to how the HIN may have been generated. I will post his explanation asap. Paul

Paul,

We already know your boat never had an HIN... They were not required in 1970....

See these articles as all recreational HIN's for Boston Whalers started with BWC after 1972:
http://www.whalercentral.com/readarti...icle_id=17

You can view the rest of the lists I have collected over the years here:
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...p?cat_id=7

The TPWD employee obviously isn't thinking about the older models as the older models did NOT have them..... You might want to read this article again:

Thanks for the link. My concern is that there is no way to numerically link my TPWD title HIN to the boat since it has none. I guess I am going to have to wait for the game warden's explanation or maybe try and have the stenciled number added to the title somewhere. I'm glad possesion is 9/10's of the law ! Thanks Joe !

Contact Boston Whaler. They cannot give you an HIN but they can tell you about your boat by the stencil number.

I have seen that NCZ designation before on other titles and this is something that is made up by the local authorities to give a boat a fictitious HIN number when one does not exist.... In boats prior to 1972, the HIN never existed because they were not required.....

I will contact BW tomorrow to start triangulating these numbers and get some hull info. Thanks for all your help and patience! Paul
