I've got a 1972 13' Sport that has the blue interior and smirk. Given the changeover from:
1. to the smirk
2. to Desert Tan
I'm trying to figure out at what hull # they switched to both. I believe there is a source at Whaler that has answered similiar questions like "born on date", etc. Can anyone point me to this resource?
I'm thinking I have one of the last blue interiors w/smirk. Who knows, maybe it could be more of a collector item, maybe BW will pay for the restoration!
There definitely are transition years and of course the dividing line right down to the serial number(s)....
There are just too many 13' models and not enough time for me to try and keep track of that information on the 13' along with the rest of the models I already try and keep track of.... I have been hoping someone would want to take on the challenge to keep track of the 13' Whaler models but no one has come forward...... Are you up for the challenge?
It is interesting to note all the changes through the years. What parts, colors, vendors, etc.....
Maybe someone can help you a little more but you are on the right track.
I sent a note to Chuck Bennett at Boston Whaler regarding this info, here's what he said:
"Sorry, I do not have the exact hull number for colors and change over to the smirked hull as there were gradual stages (very limited records going back that far...).There were quite a few molds for the old 13' models. As the smirk was introduced (in the 1971 model year), the older style hulls were still being produced. The same holds for the colors, Desert Tan was introduced in 1972 (for 73 models)."
He was also able to provide me a "born on date" for my boat and where it was delivered.
BAYS2SAV...how do I get a hold of Chuck Bennett? I would like to find out my "Born on Date" for my 1966 13' BW too. Also, it would be very interesting to know where my 13 was first delivered to. The foam inside her is amazingly dry and I think it may have led a pampered life for the past 41 years.
Thanks a million.

I reached Chuck Bennett at cbennett@whaler.com. Originally found his e-mail in an archived post on continuouswave.com.
I'm sure he'll be able to help you out and was very responsive.
However, let's not everybody inudate him all at once - I don't think he sits in a dark basement surrounded by a bunch of dusty old cardboard boxes of early whaler records all day - I'm sure he has other things to do too!
