Just bought my first whaler. Little 13' with a 70 hp. Its for my son for Christmas. Cant wait to see his face. Looking forward to redoing it one year. Has the spider cracks on one side but not too bad.

Please say you don't have a 70 HP motor on a 13 foot Whaler for your son !
Maximum safely rated motor for that hull is 40 HP. Putting a kid on it with 70 HP is a disaster waiting to happen. Please reconsider putting a 20 - 25 HP on it.

I would have to agree. We had a 13' with a 25HP and it was great. 70HP would be scary.

Wow we had a 13 with an old 50 merc,
and I swapped it for a 30 suzuki which ran it like a bullet!
Can't imagine a 70...
I guess it's like cars,
the 30 could maneuver at its high speed like a rally car,
but the 70 sounds more like a straight line drag racer!

DANGEROUS, Glad I'm not in the Maryland area as I hate to read about the accident.
