I have a 1989 Revenge with twin 150 merc opti's.....I was thinking of going to 115 yamaha's but I am unsure of the power to weight ratio. previously the twin 150 made my Revenge MOVE and DANCE in any water the west coast could offer. Am I making a bad decision?????? let me know if any of you have experience with down sizing as I have always been a fan of more is better.......

I have the new Yamaha F115LB on my new Pioneer. It's a great motor but there is no way they will make your boat "move and dance" like a pair of 150 Optimaxes.

It's not terribly surprising that twin 115s would not be as fast as twin 150s. To ask the obvious question, why are you moving down to 115s? There are many great choices for newer 150s - they won't be as noisy as your current Optis but will still provide the amount of power you're used to.

Hi Garris, it's a 25. The reason for downsize was purely price point. After install new 150's with controls and ...... Run in Canadian funds around 35k. While new 115's would be 27k or I could try to repower with a set of camp engine returns. What I have a problem with is sinking 35k into a boat that is nowhere near worth it. I would rather sell the hull and buy a newer whaler. Possibly a conquest.

Wow. those Canadian pricies are deadly. I have a 25' Whaler also, and just for kicks I looked into same repower options you are talking about. Twin 115 4-stroke Mercs $17,000. USD Twin 150 4-stroke Mercs $21,000.USD Quotes did not include any controls, etc since I have all of that already installed and functioning well. So an extra $1000 should be added if needed. Plus add in labor.
For a 25 Revenge, I would not consider less than 150's.

All new controls and labor to install them on twins will realistically cost you MUCH more than $1000 nowadays Finnegan. The helm control ALONE was over that much on my recent 300 twin installation on the Whaler 27. That same control would have been used on a 150 twin installation if electronic control is desired.
Prices on rigging components have increased DRAMATICALLY over the last 10 years. You are fortunate not to have had to re-rig anything with the latest technology recently, it is shocking what things cost today, even over there in Florida, and even in the depressed Midwest :) Oh, and I know the Mercury stuff is cheaper, but it really isn't THAT much cheaper :) I am pretty sure that Canadians have no way to avoid taxation on repowers as well, and I am also pretty sure those new engine quotes you got did not include tax...even in Florida US :)

I don't mind revealing the pricing I received. Here is the website of the quoting Merc dealer, and I have bought from them before. The various engine pricing can be verified and there are no hiddlen charges. Shipping for a pair to my area, to a Mercury servicing dealer who doesn't sell new engines, is around $400 to $500 dollars. Because they are shipping in from out of state, no sales tax is charged or due.

My choice would have been for the twin 150 EFI 4-strokes.
As for the non-DTS rigging these engines use, should someone need it, a new dual engine control is around $550. Two ignition harnesses are about $170 each, and four Sea Star Solutions XTREME cables about $50 each.
Labor to handle the engine arrivals, bolt-on to my Armstrong bracket (a very easy installation - no drilling, simple caulking) re-install the dual side mount Teleflex hydraulic cylinders (not even necessart to re-bleed), re-install dual engine tie bar, and hook up harness and cables, $100/hour. I generously estimated 10 hours. but I think it would be more like 6 hours. I already run a pair of Mercury Enertia props, so no expense of any significance there even if I have to re-sell them and change pitch.
Another member here, located in TX, repowered a 25 Outrage using this out of state dealer to him, and pricing was similar I believe. Shipping is one of the variables depending on where the buyer is.
I think he likes the engines and found them to be extremely powerful for 150's with the large displacement - more like 175's.
But anyway you look at it, a dual engine repower is still a big expense. My existing Merc 200 EFI's are still running strong and are exceptionally quiet running, with very little smoke, so I determined no real need for the change. I wouldn't live long enough to make up the cost in fuel savings, and I don't mind the throaty idle sound.

Just going through my old posts........I ended up repowering with 115's due to the cost factor. I lost about 3 knots. they are much quieter and more fuel efficient. next project is jack plates... and interior cushions. anyone know an online store or places to buy REVENGE parts?
