I have a 97 Merc 100 on 17 montauk. The engine is hard to start hot or cold and
frequently leaks fuel from the carbs. I've tried dealer tune, plugs, power-tune spray, fuel filter etc.. Any thoughts would be appreciated
I own a 1994 115 Mariner. It's almost the same and i used to have the same problem.
Difficulties with startup and fuel leaking from the carbs throttle shift.
The dealer asked for 270$ to do the job. I bought the hole carbs kit (not the overhauling, the simple one)for 47$ and with 3 hours of carefull and precise work (which the dealer will not offer you!) i cleaned the carbs and VOILA! Everything runs as new!Startup with 1/2 rev and not even a drop of fuel from the carbs!
If you'll get the SELOC service manual for your motor as i did( amazon.com,ebay...)for 30$ you'll do the job like a pro and you'll learn to troubleshoot your engine.
