Hi guys, Is there an effective way to repair the pits in the axle spindle where the seal rides? An epoxy of some type like West system, applied then polished down flat to the surrounding steel. I hate to spend big bucks on another axle for an old trailer. Has anyone tried anything like this?

Yes there is another way. Take the old seal to a bearing shop and request an oversize seal and sleeve. Clean the area where the seal will ride very well and place the oversize sleeve in the oven for awhile to expand it and then place on the spindle and do the rest of bearing service replacement.
Thanks guys, I found out that Bearing buddy makes a seal saver repair kit. Same principle, a thin SS cup with an o-ring and an oversized seal. Problem solved
