Myself & Buckda will be embarking on a week long trip to Isle Royal National Park next Friday. It will entail approximatley 300 Miles total, out to the Island, exploring from port to port around the Island, and return to the mainland.
I purchased my new to me 1985 Revenge 22 WT with 1985 Yamaha 225 last August and have done a fair amount of boating since then, but have not done any long cruises.
The Revenge has a 129 Gallon fuel tank, the Yamaha 225 has the standard 1 Qt main oil tank under the cowling and a 11.1 Qt Sub Tank.
The owners manual does not show any information re: Oil:Gas Ratio if you were having to pre-mix for this motor, so I don't have any way to figure how much oil per gallon of Gas this motor might use. The system does have the alarm/light guage and I know how that works. I've been unable to locate a shop manual for this motor and can't get one delivered before the trip.
Does anyone have any experience and/or opinions regarding how much extra outboard motor oil I should take for the trip. Any input would be appreciated.
I had V6 merc, with a very similar oiling system. They operate at 100 to 1 at idle, 50 to 1 at WOT. 3 gallons is a lot of of oil I would never get through a full tank 2.5 gallons in a season. Could not hurt to bring along an extra 2.5 gallon spare. They are sold in that size.
Here is quick guesstimate. If you are able to achieve 3MPG you will burn 100 Gals for 300 miles. at a 50 to 1 ratio you will burn 266 oz of oil or 4.2 gallons.
If you do any fishing take pictures of your catch...
and a few bikinis if you run in to any
