I have been lurking on here for awhile now just reading all I can about Whalers. This week I bought a 1988 Montauk 17. It has the original Johnson 90 and the hull is in amazing shape. No crazing or stress cracks and no bottom paint. She sits nice and high in the water. It was at one point in storage for 8 years. I am anxious for Winter to be over. In the mean time I will continue to learn all I can here and I am sure I will have lots of questions.

Thank you. Here is an image. It does not have a bow rail and I would like to remedy that a.s.a.p.

Good luck with the Montauk, I'm always looking for other whalers on "the lake" and my son has developed an eye for spotting them also.

Nice looking Whaler! That looks to be in excellent condition for a 1988. Now you're like a kid with a new toy waiting for the weather to clear so you can go outside and play with it.
