Hey moderators and knowledgeable folks,
I sent this a few minutes ago and realized I hadn't entered a subject so I don't think it went through. I've searched all I know how and can't find a definition for "sticky thread". I'm naive on this one. What is it?

Mike,

A sticky thread is one that the administrators deem important so the thread that has been marked "Sticky" will always stay at the TOP of the forum list.

When an administrator no longer feels the thread is important, then they will remove the "Sticky" thread and it will go back to its natural place in the forum list.

A member cannot tag a thread "Sticky", only administrators....

Hope this helps.

Sticky thread:

Sticky posts are a type of entry in an online Forum, (a.k.a. Bulletin Board), that serves a purpose similar to a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) entry. Sticky threads are valuable to keep thoughts in one place and avoid repeat threads and they always show at the top of the threads listed in a forum.

Sticky posts, (or just stickies), will contain information a discussion group administrator or moderator believes will be of critical or ongoing value to users of a Forum. There may be just one or several Sticky Posts at the top of individual Forums. It may be useful to note that often the terms Forum and Bulletin Board - or just 'Board' - are used interchangeably.

In any case, within a particular Forum or Sub-Forum are the topics themselves, most often in the form of threaded discussions. Stickies are shown at the top of such discussions and are usually designated by having the term(s) 'sticky' or 'Sticky Post' in bold.

Some may also use the term sticky post to refer to a Blog entry that remains static while others around it change.

Thanks Joe,
Makes plenty of sense when you explain it. All I could think of was that the topic was questionable as to content or subject.
