Hey folks, it's my lucky day.
Just put a deposit on a beautiful 1989 Outrage 18 and will be taking delivery by the weekend. She's in great shape, with less than 400 hours on her total, and inspected all the maintenance records. I can't wait to get her wet.
Now the tough part. I'm looking for suggestions for names.

Anyone creative out there? (If it helps, i have a wife and 2 kids (one of each) that will be tagging along on here)

Thanks for the help

JV

Congrats and are you a fisherman? If so being on long island where catching bluefish is a right of passage in the summertime........"Blues man" has a nice ring to it.

I am a fisherman, and it's my hope that this boat will take me to plenty of them over the coming years.

Keep 'em coming!!!!

I pretty much have a deviated cerebellum and my thoughts go off in directions that can't be explained most of the time. From Long Island I came up with "Shorty's Isle" and the other from the kids is "Baby's New Shoes." I'm sure otherss will follow.

While it may be your boat, I vote for letting the kids or the wife name her. That way they will have a vested interest in the boat.

Own her and use her this season. She will name herself before next year. Just think about it for awhile and use a "placeholder" name on the radio for this year.

Mine came with a name, but after 4 years of ownership, I'd change the name to something original to me if so many people didn't know the boat with its current name....

I have named all my boats after my daughter.

But... Long Island Sound.... and Family Boat? Sound-Family!

I agree with Buckda- she'll name herself at some point this seasong.

A word of warning- do not let your buddies know you are looking for a name. Case in point- my buddy with his shiny 2004 21' Outrage has taken to hailing me as "Second Fiddle" on the VHF. Ha, ha, ha. (I hate to admit I did laugh the first time)

A lot of different subjects might bring about a boat name, Occupations, Kids/Wifes names, specialties, sports affiliations, etc, etc,

For me I worked as a Sergent with Detroit PD Homicide, I really loved that job, it was rewarding stuff, I worked a lot of overtime in that job, it may sound demented but that overtime payed for my first Whaler, I spent a lot of time on that Montauk, one day I thought a lot of people mispronounce Homicide to sound like "Home Aside", I was spending so much time on the Montauk it was almost like a Home Aside from my real home...thus the play on words "Home Aside" became the name of my Montauk and now my Revenge 22 WT......

I always thought Shamu would be a great Whaler name. Kids would like it too.

Lotsa good suggestions... I especially like kamie's and Dave's (Buckda). Haven't named my boat yet, but have a few names in mind. I'm also not opposed to having a boat with NO name. Any other members cruising around with un-named boats? Do you still refer to "her" as "she"?

Well, since i haven't even gotten her wet yet, and the wife and kids haven't seen her yet, i'll wait. I'm sure we'll come up with a name as a family. Thanks all for your input. JV

Dan,

Out of all the Whalers I have owned, there was only one that had a name on it when I bought it.
I removed the name from the hull but did NOT change the name.

All of the rest never had a name other than what model it was.
I guess I am just not a name kind of guy.... Shock
