The old trailer is rusting through and need a new one quickly that can handle a long highway drive. Will a Venture Bunk 1800 or Venture Bunk 1500 work with the flat bottom on the sport?
Here are the specs. Anybody use a Venture with a 150 Sport? We are new to boating and need help!

Model Load Cap. Overall Width Boat Length Frame Size Between Fender Width
VB-1500 1500 78" 14'-15'* 2x3 60"
VB-1800 1800 78" 15'-16'* 2x3 60"

(EDIT: corrected name to 2005 Sport 150 as the Super Sport 150 was not made until 2009)

Thanks. Wondering if the bunks on Venture trailer can be adjusted to work with the shape of the hull.. anyone know? Also- any concern going with the slightly larger trailer vs the smaller one?

A trailer is usually designed for a particular weight range of load. If you put a small boat on a trailer designed for a larger boat the boat will have a rougher ride than if it were on a trailer designed with springs and tires for the weight of your boat. The strongest part of the hull of older whalers is the keel and the trailers for those are set up so the weight of the boat is supported by the keel rollers and the bunks are adjusted so they are just touching the hull for lateral support. I'm not sure if the structural design for a Whaler of your boat's vintage requires this type of trailer setup but I'll bet Joe knows.

I winter in Ft. Myers and summer in St. Joseph, Michigan. It’s now about 12 years since I’ve joined this group. I gave my 1972 whaler to my daughter and sold the 17’. Bought an O’Day 28 sailboat and sailed on Lake Michigan. Yesterday I bought a 2005 130 Sport.

A single axle trailer will tow easier than a dual axle. Two axles will want to keep going straight in a turn (nature of two sets of wheels in a line) and works best with a heavier vehicle. Check the weight of the boat, add the tire capacity and axle rating with the weight of the trailer, and it will tell you if you are legal/within limits of design. If the numbers work with weight, you are good. Size is incidental unless you are extremely wide.

Be sure to check out Karavan Trailers if that's an option for you. They are the current OEM for the smaller Whalers and seem to have a good product. They can tell you the "right-sized" model for your 150 Sport.
