It always remembered me the opening scene of "Saving private Ryan", a pretty accurate portrait of hell...

The next time any of us take a walk in back of our property or a walk on the beach, try and imagine a 3rd Reich machine gun shooting around 2,000 rounds a minute at you with every intent to stop you.
Very frightening to say the least.
That is what those men on D-Day did so most of the world population could walk free.
Many never made it more then 2 steps.
I will never forget.
Thanks to all our veterans and allies.

Yes a very special time for the remaining soldiers who 70 years ago fought and died on Juno Beach in Normandy.
http://www.cbc.ca/news2/dday/
340 deaths,574 wounded,47 missing.
If born just a few years sooner,I could have been among them.
To read.

All the fellows who fought to free Europe in the West and the islands in the East deserve a prayer. Technology got pretty efficient in taking one's life. Saying a prayer right now for my dad. POW as a successful diversion for Patton.

I'm a little older than most of you
My Dad was a Commander in the US Navy
He was there on D Day and North Africa and Italy
In the 45 years I knew him he never said a single word about the war
When I told him I received orders to Vietnam he didn't say a word. I was a Captain US Army Field Artillery
Mom said it was the only time she ever saw him cry
I think our daughter's birth day was the best day of his life
We owe a great debt to the WW2. Korea, Vietnam, Afghan and Irag Vets.
Just say "thank you" and thank you for your service every time you see one
I commanded a Marine unit one summer. What an experience.
Semper Fi!!!
Thanks
Harvey

Harvey, to you and all the other vets. THANK YOU. It was 40 years after the my father's tour that he described and shared some of his experiences. Until then "....we had a job to do..." with no fan fair. Thanks again Harvey, as well as, caen fred for his humble remembrance and thread.
