I just came across this article regarding BRP/Evinrude on the Boating Industry website. Apparently they're going to make an announcement on June 13 and reveal a new outboard design that's supposed to be revolutionary and a game changer. Should be interesting. Here's an excerpt:
STURTEVANT, Wis., – Club Evinrude is more than a dealer conference. It’s the kick off event to the future of the outboard marine industry. On Friday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m., BRP executives together with the Evinrude management, will change the way you look at the outboard engine industry.
“Our announcement at the Global Reveal on Friday, June 13th is something you don’t want to miss,” said Chris Berg, director of marketing and strategic planning for Evinrude. “With this announcement comes a new era of outboards.”
Evinrude’s “Global Reveal” will take place at Evinrude’s Dealer Club in Milwaukee the weekend of June 13-15, 2014. In addition to being among the first in the world to attend the unveiling another game-changing BRP milestone, invited attendees can also test ride the new Evinrude product, as well as tour the Evinrude campus in Sturtevant, WI.
The most likely change is they added the 3D RAVE exhaust valves from the Ski-Doo engine. Also there is word they want to put the oil tanks under the cowl even on the big engines. Also integrated power steering is rumored as well.
They will probably unveil a new 300 with the above changes that is now 3-star compliant solving it's very high HC emissions (3x a 250 E-TEC currently) while also being more fuel efficient.
Just came across this, watch the video at the bottom of the page. Sounds like it's going to be a whole lot more than just a few improvements on the current engine line.
