Folks: Does anybody have a good suggestion for a trailer for my 2005 160 Dauntless? The bonehead marina that I bought it from sold me the wrong one, and are doing nothing to remedy the situation. I've gotten quotes for a personalized trailer and they run about $3K. So something off the shelf that was appropriate would be great. Many thanks!

(changed to proper name of Dauntless 160 for clarification)

what trailer do you have? Take some photos, post to photo bucket and post the link here.

I winter in Ft. Myers and summer in St. Joseph, Michigan. It’s now about 12 years since I’ve joined this group. I gave my 1972 whaler to my daughter and sold the 17’. Bought an O’Day 28 sailboat and sailed on Lake Michigan. Yesterday I bought a 2005 130 Sport.

I've got a Sea Lion. The bunks just don't line up, and I've tried setting it up a couple of times. Its a nice trailer but just not the right one.

Do you mean the bunks are not paralle?

teh bunks just don't line up right and hold the boat well. The boat moves around when trailering. It is now resting on the wheel well cover. Not good. Thanks for your insight.

I wouldn't give up just yet. Once a boat has been positioned correctly and secured to the trailer with tie-downs it should not move very much. With Boston Whalers some care is needed when tightening the tie-down adjustment due to the sandwich hull construction. Too tight can result in some malformation.

If your trailer lacks keel rollers you may want to consider adding them. The self centering type work well to keep the boat aligned properly. Side bunks may also be useful and guide poles can help, too.

If you post some photos it will help others to help you.

Butch, thanks for the help, which if it pans out may save me from a showdown with my wife. If we can add rollers on the side, that might do the trick. I'll post some photos. Take care.

I believe Butch was referring to "keel rollers" which would be in the center of the trailer, not the sides. Post pictures before purchasing "fix-its".

Please upload photos of the boat on the trailer on a photo site and post a link:

I have a 2004 dauntless 160 and it lives on a tidewater 100% roller trailer .Most whaler users say do not use full roller support trailer. Was concerned... I checked it for dimples and dings where the rollers sit and see and feel none so far.Just put 16 new rollers on it was looking again.still good

Got an aluminum trailer for my 16ft dauntless for a little less than 3k from a local trailer shop. This was about 2 years ago.

The marina set my Dauntless on a venture trailer when I purchased it . The installer had much experience and in the industry for a few decades and it has proven helpful. He set the bunks on a very intricate slope and angle. Works perfectly every time and the boat never moves once trailering. Ive studied these bunks at times and I will never quite understand how he did it. I guess thats what experience is all about. Good luck
