I'm looking at a Vance Engineering JPL4000 6 inch manual jack plate to mount on my 1987 13 Sport. The plate has standard BIA mounting holes, and a 6 in. setback and 4 inches vertical adjustment. My question is this: My 1981 35 hp Johnson is a clamp-mounted motor with just 2 bolt holes in the bracket approx. 9-1/2 (perhaps the standard 9-7/8 ?)inches apart.. I understand that BIA standards today are approx. 12.5 inches apart on the top holes and 9-7/8 inches on the lower holes. Will my mounting holes line up with the lower pair on the jackplate?
(moderator note: please follow guideline #1 on the front page and use the full 4 digit year)
thanks, Joe.. I'm still wondering: if I mount the jack plate with the standard upper holes, and bolt the motor thru the green lower pair, how do I clamp the top clamps? Perhaps fabricate a plate across the top bolt holes, and clamp to that?
