It occurred to me over this past weekend that I am two weeks away from putting the boat in. This time last year I was oiling, varnishing, cleaning, painting....
This year, I have yet to unwrap her. With cloudy, chilly, rainy weather in the NE I just have not yet felt the "urge". How's everyone else doing?

Rode motorcycle around Keuka and Canandaigua Lakes [Western New York] within last 10-days. Wind off those lakes stunned the body like stepping into a walk-in freezer.

Much, much colder on Lake Michigan. Mark's remark about the freezer is right on spot.
I winter in Ft. Myers and summer in St. Joseph, Michigan. It’s now about 12 years since I’ve joined this group. I gave my 1972 whaler to my daughter and sold the 17’. Bought an O’Day 28 sailboat and sailed on Lake Michigan. Yesterday I bought a 2005 130 Sport. |

It's global warming. Which, as we all know, is caused by Republicans.

Supposed to be 90º this week and possible set a record high.
On top of the drought we are already in here in California.
And then Tornadoes throughout the South and up to Ohio.
Hope everyone makes it through OK.

Does anyone know a good link for average weather, or better yet, average water temps compared to prior years? I was just wondering today how the temperature might be impacting the migration of striped bass up the northeast coast but I couldn't find a good way to compare trends vs. prior years.
p.s. let's not confuse weather with climate, or causation with denial

At the end of the last ice age the Lake Michigan area was much colder than it is now so I guess it's good we weren't waiting back then for warmer weather to use our Whalers. Don't know why those cave men didn't do something about global warming that melted all the glaciers back then.

I agree spring is way behind, I keep the boat in the garage, used it about 3 weeks ago on a 60 degree day, in the river chasing some holdover schoolies but no real concentration of migrating keepers yet. We haven't seen any herring either, water in the river 48-50 degrees and mid sound about 44 tops. We are usually killing them by now. Just poking around doing some shore fishing until the water temp hits 55. May try the Thames this weekend.

Yeah, the water will take a bit longer to warm up, that's for sure.

All I know is there is a bunch of hot air coming out of Washington DC.

Going back to the original poster.... Jay Fitz.... I wish for next year when I can remove the cover and "tidy" for the weather. New repower and lots of work complete, when true salmon fishing is a couple weeks away. Cannot replace my rub rails or stainless rails till 6th coat of tung oil. Killing me, 90 degrees today and trying to hitchhike a ride with the concrete pumper. Between work and energy, tough to complete. Antsy beyond belief but wanting to do it correct. Only consolation is inconsistent bite 6 miles out.

It has been a cold spring. We didn't make it out for the first time until April 13 and it was really chilly. The air temp was about 83 and the water temp was 68!

Water temps in the Delaware are around 55 deg. A few Shad being caught and very few bass. Hope it gets better. Someone drove a mini van onto the floating dock at Florence, NJ and twisted it all up. It's in a pile in the parking lot right now. I got my ramp permit a week or so earlier but I can't launch my boat and get in it without the floating dock.

This is the third driest spring in North Texas for the last 78 years of record keeping. Our lakes are 12 or more feet low and that's not a good thing at all...especially for a forecasted "Drier than normal" summer ahead of us.

Pretty wet up here in New Hampshire and yet another wet Memorial Day Weekend on tap here. Maybe, maybe some sun for Monday but wet all around. Funny thing, I was making snow at home just a short four weeks ago this Friday. Love the weather ride here!
