just recently bought a 17 ft sport or supersport, don't know witch it is any help on this sub would be appreciated, also is this the same hull as a 17 montauk
Congratulations...
Yes, the hull is the same as the "Smirked" hulls of that era.... 1976 to 2002 Smirked 17' hulls..
Prior to 1976 the 17' hulls were "Smirkless"...
You might look at some of the members Personal Pages to see if you can find a photo of your model... We don't have any yet in the Model/Year Index section...
The 17s were all very similar hulls. The Montauk is the most popular model of the 17 footers. There were many variations with the same hull, different names and consoles over the years. I have Super sport Limited, also to same hull as a pre-2002 Montauk. Take a look at mine, it may be like yours. As Joe points out in 1976 the hull changed a bit, to the smirked design.
Post some pictures....

Many other boats and outboards in my boating history
The Whaler is the one I like the best!!!
thanks for the replys, will post pictures soon, mine is a gls sport, not a supersport i found out, i live in va beach and fish mostly from it, was thinking about in the future to possibly put a center console in it and remove the bench style seating has anyone done this?, would like to keep everything stock as far as the console, would like to put a montauk console in maybe....... any thoughts
My first thought is to sell your boat and buy and Montauk. That way your current boat could remain original. A Montauk should be relatively easy to find in your area.
makes sense will keep it original, will have to repower down the road, has a 60 johnson 1989 vro, still runs good now, but sure would like to have a 90 honda or possibly a evinrude e tec, don't know if i want a 4 stroke or 2 stroke if buying new, i have a honda 30 on my 14ft carolina skiff, runs well, also my sport has no bow rail was wanting to put one on, any ideas where i could get one, can i get one from whaler or do i have to find a used one thanks d elkins
