teak rod holders

Member Posts: 4 Comments: 0 Joined: 07/05/07	I have a 1983 18ft outrage and I need to replace the wooden rod holders. They appaear to be plywood. I would like to replace them in solid teak any suggestions where I might find them?

Yes, they were made of mahogany plywood.... There are drawings available for these in the downloads section also.... Personally, I would NOT use solid teak... The first time someone bumps them with their foot, they will most likely break... That is why Boston Whaler used the much stronger laminated plywood. Even the plywood will break many years down the road if not taken care of....

Member Posts: 4 Comments: 0 Joined: 07/05/07	Thanks for the info. I was not able to find them on Ebay but i did contact a cabinet maker and arranged to have them built. I agree that solid teak is not as elastic as plywood. However, I found solid teak rod holders on West marine website, and the design they used makes the solid teak far less likely to break because they eliminate the finger design. I ordered two set sand will let you know how it turns out. They only cost about $26 and if they do not look right I will copy the design for the cabinet maker and send them back.
