It is that time of year again when a group of Whaler owners get together and support the Potomac River Swim for the Environment. This years swim will be held on May 31 and will go from Hull Neck Creek in Virginia to Point Lookout St Park in Maryland.
The whaler owners provide support to the swimmers and their assigned kayakers in the form of time and distance updates, removal in the event the swimmer is too tired to continue or weather forces us off the water. Another vital function of the boaters is to be a larger, more visible boat than a kayak so that any local boat traffic can see and avoid the swimmers.
What do you get as a whaler owner:
There is a captains dinner friday night @ Trinity Church in St Mary's city
Artist designed t-shirt
If there are rooms available you can have one or two free nights at Schiebles in Ridge Md.
You get a great day on the water (weather permitting) Saturday helping some swimmers raise money for environmental groups in an around the potomac river.
Typically the boaters gather for dinner at Schiebles on Saturday to hopefully celebrate another successful swim
