How many of you already own an E-TEC engine? What do you think about them?
Is anyone interested in purchasing one this year?
Any thoughts at all about these motors?

You know I would like one but right now can not afford it. However I have been on BRP's website reading about the engines and I must say I am impressed. I would like to ride on a boat with one on it. I think I would go this route over a 4stroke.

I am new to this site but not new to owning a Whaler. I currently own a 1987 17' Montauk that I repowered with a 2009 90 hp Evinrude ETEC- Saltwater version.
The old 87' 90 hp VRO was a great motor but I am so looking forward to a quiet, smokeless launch. The two-fold fuel economy will help to make getting out on the water more bear-able.
I will be back to report my experience.

You know how I feel about my ETEC. It is without a doubt the finest motor that I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I've had Johson, Evinrude, Yamaha and Mercury! Hauls butt, sips gas, light weight, quiet and a fantastic warranty. They have printed in the manual that if it needs to turn over more than 2 or 3 times before cranking then you have a problem. I honestly don't believe mine has made it past 1 1/2 before cranking. Great motor!

I am planning on buying one in the fall when I come back from Alaska.I am praying that the sticker shock at the pump will create an overstock situation come fall, resulting in some SALES. Time will tell....I do know one thing and that is I will be the proud new papa of an E-TEC come November.

Yes its on my wish list but my money situation has gone down hill the last couple of years. I did get the bugs out of my old 80 merc on the 17 i have so im goinig to hold out for a while. Id like to have one so i can fish Lake Tahoe.

Repowered our 1963 Eastport with a 2006 75HP E TEC last fall. It is everything they say it is. First crank and it is running. It is so quiet my wife and I speak in a normal voice even at WOT. We no longer carry spare gas for the longer hauls because it is simply not needed (thank goodness). In fact, there is plenty left over.
Completely dependable, we know it is going to crank up everytime.
We had a classic 1961 75 HP Evinrude before (rebuilt it three times) that we hated to replace but after the first use of the E TEC we had no qualms. What was also really nice was it used the existing bolt holes in the transom (no filling and reboring).

Repowered my 1963 Eastport with a 2007 90hp last fall. I wanted a 2stroke DI or a 4 stroke. I have a decent BRP dealer 5 miles from my house so this is what ultimately swayed me to getting the e-tec. When I looked at all the choices of the newer technology 90hp outboards I came to the conclusion that they are all very good and none really stand out from the rest.
So far my e-tec is performing like I hoped and expected.

I had to add this note.............I put my boat in the water today for the first time since last Nov. Pumped the fuel bulb and turned the key and I promise, it couldn't have made more that a full revolution before it cranked. Absolutely perfect! Did I mention that there is no break in period with a brand new motor?

Sorry for the late reply, but have been out of town for most of the last two weeks. Far as my ETEC goes, i just love it. Sips gas, uses even less oil and runs like a scalded dog. I can't say enough good things about it. Like everyone else, basically a half turn of the motor starts it first time everytime and quiet as a mouse cruisin!!

I keep remembering features! We all know the hassell of winterizing an outboard with all of the fogging, etc you have to go thru............Not with the ETEC.......It has a built in Winterizing feature that takes about 5 minutes of an effortless throttle and ignition sequence. YOu never even remove the engine cowling.....

That is true you trade winterization for more frequent hurricanes. I'll take the winterization problem, thanks for the offer.
I put a 175HP E-Tec on my 18 Outrage last year at this time. It is a great outboard, starts on the first turn of the key, is quiet even running at 25MPH and for the HP sips gas. I don't have MPG figures since I haven't used enough to fill the tank but I will later this summer. I like the power of the 2 stroke and the low emissions of the 4 stroke and compared to the old Merc 150 that was on the boat when I bought her it's like night and day.
I am waiting for the new lower HP E-Tecs to make their appearance so that if the Evinrude currently on the 13 is shot, I have an excuse to get one. I could have gotten a Merc Optimax cheaper, but for me the E-Tec, with no breakin, and no maintenance is the perfect engine.

We have a 75 ETEC on the back of our 18ft aluminum flounder boat and it performs flawlessly. Sometimes we have 5 men on board and it pops us out of the hole in skinny water with no problem. Excellent engines in every aspect! Paul
