Took the Whaler out for an extended run about 75 miles on New Years day. Ran from Napa out to the Golden Gate and back. Took some nice shots on the GoPro. New Nissan 90 is running great too.

That is an impressive video. I think mounting the camera on the pole and changing views makes it vastly enjoyable to watch.

Well done.

In the winter we get the least wind in SF bay. This year has been very calm with little rain and no wind on the bay the last couple weeks. Conditions range from glass calm to 3 to 4 wind waves here in the bay.

Nice, there are other videos with small Whalers running in the San Francisco bay and we in Ohio are amazed that you can venture that far out. When I have people on my boat they are amazed when I tell them of what you all are doing with my size boat. Lake Erie is quite shallow(20 ft.) in most places and can get quite choppy and uncomfortable in my boat as was the trend last summer. The year before the winds were more favorable and I had a blast on the lake.

It is the Hero 2. This is the model just before the the current Black Model. It is in a small clear case and I am using it on the end of my boat hook. I screwed a go pro mount to flat side of the boat hook and now my boat hook is my dive flag holder, GoPro mount and boat hook.

In all other countries around the world, a 17 foot boat with a new 90hp engine would be taken 40 miles out to sea. Only in America do we get so overburdened with thoughts of everything that can go wrong. Safety is good, but at times Americans live in a bubble. The S.F. bar and Golden Gate can be very dangerous but a little planning and you are ok most of the time. The people inside a 17 Whaler will give up long before the boat does. Steep chop is not a 17 Whalers friend, but the boat will make it and the people inside will be wet, wet and cold but most likely alive. I still rather be out on a flat day though.

BSG,
Hey neighbor thanks for the great introduction to the New Year. Nothing like waking up and taking a boat ride. I am out in Bodega and sometimes you get the magical days and moments in the Bay area. One evening out by Whistle Buoy last year. Slow day of fishing (no one hooked) but it was a day after a rain storm, and near sunset with the last rays of the sun breaking through the dark clouds, all agreed it does not get better than this. I do not know which I liked better. The video of the ride or the smiles of those on board. Thanks.

What a great video I just ran into thanks BSG
Hey gchuba it does get better than that on the East side of Lake Michigan (i.e. West Michigan) only because there is no salt in the water or therefore on or in the Whaler and its engine. Hence a little better with the same sunsets over the water.

Great video and you guys have a nice playground there. I must think about one of those GoPro's
Thanks

Great video!

It looks like you are holding on to the camera "boom" with just one hand. I'd like to make something similar.

How long is it and what is the diameter? Is it metal or wood?

Thanks.

Love the video - right now I'd need an ice breaking attachment to cruise Sandy Hook Bay - we're iced up pretty bad here in NJ!

I used an adjustable aluminum boat hook, I think it goes out to about 8 feet when extended. I put a GoPro attachment on flat side of the hook and can use the hook with out taking the attachment off.
