Does anyone know what the "original" factory equipped motor or motors that came with the 1970 Boston Whaler 13 foot Sport with remote steering?
Thank you !

Absolutely no motor whatsoever.

They did not come with motors.
That was left up to the dealer or the buyer.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but i think the limit on the old rope pulley steering is 20 hp. Teleflex steering will let you go to 40 hp.

I remember those days well, and almost all of the 13's were DEALER powered with OMC 2 cylinder 33's or 40's. Wire cable pulley steering was used. It was a terrible engine, and not very powerful.

Occasionally you would see a 13 Sport powered by a 35HP 2 cylinder Mercury, also not a very good engine even though it was 2 cylinders of the famous Merc in-line 6. Because of the lousy 35 Merc, I chose to power mine with a 4 cylinder 50 HP Mercury, a very sophisticated engine for it's time. It had Thunderbolt electronic ignition and through-hub exhaust, which the OMC 40's did not have.

In those days, it seemed like the majority of the Whaler dealers were OMC affiliated.

You're right Finnegan, I forgot my dad's first whaler was a late 1970's 13 with a rope steered 35.

Nope,
Tiller steering was limited to 20 or 25 HP and remote steering was up to 40HP
