I'm looking for used engines for my Whaler 27 and would appreciate any input. There are various brands but they all seem to have some years that seem better than others. I've found some Yamaha 150 four stroke's but I'm not sure they are strong enough for this big Whaler. I'm not a speed demon but I don't want to just barely plane off either. Thanks
Those 1989 counter-rotating, carbed 2-strokes with Yamaha SS Saltwater Series 17p props were awesome! If I were in the used engine market, these are exactly what I would look for. I wish I had known ahead of time you were looking as mine are sold now :(
I cannot state the price I got for mine due to gentleman's agreement with the purchaser, but I can say they didn't go cheap.
The ones I'm looking at are 1992 models with salt water use but according to the seller were kept up very well and about 400 hours of use. And I think 5k is a very premium price. I'm sure yours went for a good price with only fresh water use, but those are very hard to find in north florida.
