So, long story short, I put synthetic oil in my oil tank for my 1998 Evinrude 70hp. I ran the engine a few times out of the water with the hose plugged in. Later, I found out that it is not supposed to take synthetic, so I emptied the tank and put a synthetic blend (apparently okay for the engine).
Before putting the synthetic blend in, I pump a bunch of air through the oil line in an effort to reduce the two oils from mixing. Now, I am getting a consistent engine alarm noise as soon as the engine is turned over.
This alarm is not as a result of it over heating because it is happening when the engine is cold as soon as it turns on.
Any idea on what the best case and worse case scenario might be. As a side note, I realize now that I didn't necessarily approach this correctly, and I am taking it in this weekend for a service. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Air bubbles from you blowing the line out is possibly causing the alarm. Hopefully, no damage from blowing line out. I doubt the oiling system is able to tell if syn. or dinosaur oil is used.
I got a 1999 mercury optimax and run synthetic that meets manufacturers specs. Most synthetics exceed engine manufacturer specs. My engine requires an oil which meets a tc w3 spec, conventional or synthetic so long as the oil meets the recommended spec it is ok. If a synthetic blend is ok it makes no sense why full synthetic wouldn't work .
