I live in So Cal. I have been boating on and off about 30 years. It's been 12 years since my last boat.

I purchased this Whaler from a friend who needed cash. It's been sitting for a few years and not in the best mechanical condition. I am now going through the electrical, replacing bad switched, new battery cables. fish finder/GPS, VHF radio with new antenna and some other wiring. Then new fluids, impeller and fuel line. New Bimini top, tires, wheels, wiring and lights on the trailer. He said there is a couple of bad rollers on the EZ loader, I will look for them when I put the boat in the water. I hope to be on the water by Spring.

This is my fourth boat.

1. 197? 17' ? runabout with 100 HP Johnson OB.
2. 1975 22.5' Bayliner Skagit cuddy with 307 cu. in. V8 Chevy OMC drive. No more I/O's for me, to many moving parts.
3. 1994 18.5' Seaswearl Striper cuddy 135 HP Evinrude OB.
4. 1982 18' Boston Whaler Outrage 150 HP Johnson OB.

Welcome and congrats on your new boat. I hope you enjoy your Outrage 18 as much as I do mine.

Before I d anything to the trailer and cosmetics, fish finder, electronics non sense, I would make sure your motor is sound.

Have you done compression check and spark check?

Tips so you don't go spending money on stuff and may not end up using it for a long period of time.

You could always paddle it if your motor doesn't work. Or just push it off the trailer and sit at the boat ramp and have conversations with people.

Nothing like a Whaler

I also have an 18 outrage 1988. As with a older whaler check the fuel tank for pin hole leaks and fuel filler hose. Have had to replace tank and helped other whaler owners replace their's also. Repowered with a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke and feel that it is the ideal package. Have over 500 hours and no issues. Burns about 5 GPS at 3900 rpm. Cruising at 25 kt on the open ocean with a 70 gallon tank that is a 200 mile range (one way). Santa Barbara to San Diego (no I am not a panga boat that runs drugs from Mexico). This my second whaler and we frequently go to the local islands (26-45 miles) safely.
Enjoy your Whaler.
