Which engine to my outrage

I will have to buy a new enginento my Outrage 19 from 1993 but nut sure which to go for. I actually bought a new Suzuki 140 hp but am not happy as there is too much vibration. Had a Honda 130 BF from 1998 before which was very good but heavy. Now i am thinking about a 150 or 175 hp Suzuki instead of The smaller 140 hp but am not sure if it will help to reduce vibrations. In addition, the heavier engine will make the back part of the deck wet again. Futthermore, the hp limit is 150 hp according to the plate. Any ideas what i better do? (Preferably other than buying a new boat)

What holes in the mounting plate were used to mount the engine to the transom. It could be that the engine is mounted too low

From what we hear, the Suzuki is a good motor but it still weighs in @485 pounds.

I think we may be able to troubleshoot the vibration problem.
What propeller (brand and size) is on the engine?
At what speed (rpm and mph) is the "vibration"? Do you feel it the vibration in the hull or does a railing or part vibrate?

Thanks for replying. Currently I have a 140 hp Suzuki, new engine, have tried to mounting upwards but did not help, vibrations mainly on lowest rph forward and at 3000 rpm. Fine at say 2000 and 4000 rpm, the guys will try another plare in aluminium and wood to see if it becomes better, if not, i am thinking about more cylinder volume in form of Suzuki 150 or 175 hp but not sure what is better for the boat (that has an official maximum at 150 hp) What would you do?

Man, if you can swing it, that Suzuki 175 is a fine engine. Good on fuel, too.

Not sure if this is the case with the 19 Outrage hull but I know that 90HP E-Tec have caused vibrations on some 16/17 hulls at specific RPMs.
Where is the engine mounted, and what prop do you have on it currently. I realize you indicated that it was raised with no effect but resolving things like this requires systematic trial and error testing.
The decision to power at or above the capacity plate is entirely yours, it really depends on your level of risk and what your willing to accept.

Perhaps some other DF140 owners will chime in here. It seems odd that there are vibration issues with this install, when most describe the DF140 as sewing machine smooth.
I would look carefully at all connections to the engine, to make sure the vibes are not coming from one of the attachment's to the engine having an interference issue, such as the steering system or control cables making light contact with other hard parts. I would also try a different prop.

I have a 1992 outrage 19 I with a 2012 suzuki DF140. Engine is smooth and quiet. Initially, I had a slight vibration when running idle. It went away after 20-30 hours of use. Not sure what was causing it....? I attributed the vibration to the size of the prop and break in...? I am using a suzuki stainless prop 14 x 22 (part # 99105-00700-22P). Hope this helps......

Thanks everybody, i will certainly try another propellar, if it does not become better, i will probably invest in a larger cylinder volume such as the 175 hp Suzuki, expensive but perhaps worth it. I have always wondered what is the reason behind a highest recommended engine. Is if because of speed or weight?
