I am planning a trip to Charleston end of this month. I've read a few of the SC area postings in this thread, though could use some recommendations on ramps, tide conditions (they are much higher than NJ) or good waterfront restaurants/ pubs/ things to see in a Montauk by water.

I tend to like Shem Creek for boat access waterfront dining as well as gaining access to the harbor for fishing. Shem creeks ramp is accessible during all tides and has a light current for ease in launching. It is lined with restaurants, bars and shrimp boats. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Don't listen to Huckleberry, he doesn't know what he's talking about. =8-)
If you let us know where you're staying that's a good start.
One of the great things about Charleston is that for every bad restaurant, there's 10 good ones.

Second on the Shem Creek, actually Red's is preferred for beverages. Dock along side & watch the dolphins spook the pelicans!! Actually just talking to another CDN tonite about Shem Creek. He stayed at the Shem Creek Inn and loved it. Work takes me down to Charleston and this March will be my fifth trip. Y'all throw a great party down there!

Thanks for the leads. I'm not tied to accommodations as yet, other than needing room to park the boat trailer. I plant to do quite a bit of cruising around the peninsula so I'm flexible

Let us know the exact dates you're going to be here, and maybe we can have a mini Whaler get together.
Another place there's a restaurant on the water you can dock at is on Bohicket (sp?) creek. It's actually another Red's Icehouse.
My wife and I usually pick up some samiches, or some wangs and have a picnic on Little Bear Island, Morris Island, or sometimes we go down below Beaufort to Trenchard's Inlet.
My e-mail address is in my profile, send me a message and I'll give you more details.
And don't listen to Huckleberry.
