I have a 2001 Yamaha 60 2 stroke with 147 hours on it. Monday had the wife and dogs out and we were running in at 3500 when I felt it slow a little and the tach was at 3100 but I never touched the throttle went about a 100 yards and it just slowed down and cut off. It acted like I had wrapped something around the prop but there was nothing.
The motor did not want to start it did a couple of times but would run rough for a few seconds and cut off. We were pretty close to the landing so I got towed in and when I got home I tried to start it and it would not, I checked the plugs and they were getting fire, fuel filter was ok and getting fuel. I tried the emergency operation steps once I figured out the yellow wire was the correct one to unplug and it started up and ran ok a little rough I let it run for a few min and then cut it off plugged the wire back and it started up and ran at 900 rpm tried cutting it off and starting a few more times and it was fine.
Anyone have any clue what could be going on? I am stumped, from what I can determie the yellow wire bypasses the ECU and sets the motor at fixed timing but I am not sure why it would start after plugging the wire back in. I have not had any issues with the motor ever.
