Anyone tried a 9" pitch prop on a 28 SPL ? I currently have a 9.25" x 11" prop and am trying to improve acceleration.

You probably want the 10" pitch version.

These props are uncommon because they use the old fashioned non--through hub exhaust style but do not have a shear pin; the hubs are splined like a modern prop.

BRP stills offers them as does Michigan and Solas.

I have a 13' Classic with a Johnson 28SPL. I've aquired a variety of props over the years.

I use a 9x9 when I want to get six adults on plane or we are pulling my daughter's double wide tube that is wider than the boat.

I use a 9x10 when pulling the kneeboard or single wide tube.

I use a nicked up 9.2x11 normally (2 adults, 2 kids, 2 gas tanks).

The boat came with a 9.2x12 that gives the best speed with one gas tank and one person in the boat. (We bought the 9.2x11 after the first year with the boat.)

I put the part numbers in my ebay watchlist and I got the 9x9, 9x10, and a spare 9.2x11 for between $25 and $35. It took a while to get them nearly new for those prices though. The primary 9.2x11 and original 9.2x12 were purchased before ebay was founded.

Thank you very much for your suggestions and comments.
I was not aware that Solas had a 9x10 prop available for the 28SPL. I found it in their catalog and ordered one.
I am looking forward to trying it out. I got the boat/motor new in 1996 and am still using the original prop so I'm probably long overdue for a new one.
The original prop has never been damaged enough to need professional repair and has never been reconditioned. Depending on how the new prop performs, I may get the old one reconditioned and see about having the pitch changed from 11 to 9.
The Dauntless 13 is about 300 lbs. heavier than the Sport 13 and I have a Doel fin on mine but it struggles to get on plane with only me (190lb) aboard. If I have a passenger, they need to move to the bow platform.
