I just bought my first whaler - its in nice condition....just hasn't been used in almost 2 years! It has a 1987 45hp 2 stroke Mariner 4 cylinder. The mechanic is going through it now fixing, replacing & tuning. Compression was 100,110,100,110 - good relative range but not super high absolute numbers. THose numbers ok? close range more important than absolute numbers? - just curious for any commentary or thoughts - would I even know the difference if it were closer to 120 etc.?

As long all the cylinder's are within 10% of each other it's good.

Well, if the engine has been sitting your rings could be a little stuck, and that could account for what I think are low numbers.

And they really made a 4 cylinder 45hp engine?
