I thought I knew the answer to this, but now I'm not sure. I was going to put 1-2 coats of the bristol finish 2 part urethane on the undersides of the wood I am re-doing on my fathers 13 sport, but someone suggested I leave it open so it can breathe. What do you guys do to the underside areas?
I do both sides, it's "WOOD" not "Wine" so it does not need to breathe. I use "Zar" brand marine stain, and "Zar" marine poly-urathane, seal it up, especially the ends of the wood, I re-did my friends wood work on a 13' sport that he bought, this took much time away from my wood work on my 15' sport that summer, we were at the fuel dock, and people were admiring his "WOOD" (sorry), One of them turned to me and said "You should get the wood on your Whaler, as nice as this guy's" (while grinning), well steam was practically coming out of my ears, as my friend laughed, he is a canvass maker and showed up the next day with a new "Bimini" top he made for my boat (still Laughing). Wow, what a nice "Bimini", and being out of the sun on a hot day is WONDERFUL !
