outrage gas tank 56 gal

On my outrage 1998 17 has a fish box and on the back plat there looks like a plug ? It that a drain for the gas tank?Has anyone pull and replace a 56 gal tank in the outrage? Thanks Bob Zollo

Hello Bob, I have been boating for a long time, I never heard of a drain plug on a gas tank. I am sure this would be a safety and environmental issue. Very unlikely its the gas tank. It probably is a drain plug for the boat or possibly live well. If it is located at the lowest point just in front of your lower unit, I would bet it is the drain plug for the boat. If your tank is built in to the floor, it may be a challenge to remove. What are you trying to accomplish?

Hi Jon I will have to pull the gas tank to have it cleaned, The E10 gas is raiseing hell with my filters and getting by my 10 micron filters and clogging my injectors, Have you pull out a gas tank on a outrage ? 1998 17 outrage Do I have to remove the center console or tilt it to the bow and I don't have to unhook the wires? I will pull it and have it boiled clean and my problem will be over, Thanks Bobby Z

No never pulled tanks. My 17 SS/Montauk has a 28 gal top side tank. Sits in the well behind the seats. I have had some minor problems with ethanol but not bad. I changed my separators twice last season. Not much water. Are your tanks fiberglass. Big issues with ethanol and fiberglass tanks.

I have pulled the tank on my old old 20 ft outrage 1973 several times due to the same situation with mine the problem was that water was able to leak in to the compartment around the tank vent and wet the foam. I replaced the tank a couple of times over about 15 years.
Your outrage should be simililar. I had to take the screws out at the bottom of the console all the way around and then I had enough wire to lean the console to the side where the wires run up from the batterys in the stern.
I was then able to remove the screws holding the deck plate over the fuel tank, after that the fun begins on the old boats the entire tank was surrounded by foam which had to be cut out before I could remove the tank. The new tank fit back in place and I used a spray in foam again along the sides of the tank. Make sure you get the deck plate sealed back down good. I would use boat life and not 5200 in case you have to take it out again.
I switched to a 40 gallon tank on the deck after I quit fishin off shore but I am going to get a plastic tank made to go back in the deck again this year.
Don't know if this will help, it was not a bad job just time consuming and messy.
