I plan to re power my 1985 Montauk 17 but do not see any engine restrictions in the manual, and the capacity plate is unreadable It has a 85 Johnson 60hp now. The option I was thinking about was a new Evenrude E-Tec 90hp. Does anyone know the weight or hp restrictions?
We also have the model information for most Whalers in the Model/Year index section. http://www.whalercentral.com/userphot...owstart=20
Click on the Montauk and you will see that it is rated for a max of 100 HP....
Thanks for the compliments. All the members here make this site what it is...
The E-Tec 90 is a perfect match for the Classic Montauk.
Here is one member that has had the E-Tec 90 on the back of his Montauk for quite sometime now. http://www.whalercentral.com/infusion...?user_id=7
I can't tell you what HP to get, but you cannot go wrong with the ETEC. I have had Yamahas, OMC, and Mercury and none compare. Power, noise, fuel economy and especially maintainance! You will not be sorry if you get one
