I'm considering putting a trolling motor on my 1993 13' Sport but have a few questions.
1. What shaft length do I need?
2. What is the minimum power that I would need? Mainly use the boat for bass fishing in a lake and some trolling for salmon and lake trout.
3. I had a trolling motor on a Sakonnet and the trolling motor bracket dug into the gelcoat leaving gashes in the gelcoat. How do I prevent this from happening?
Your probably looking at 30 or 36 inch shaft. Even though your putting this on a 13 i would still go max, which is probably a 50 or 55 lbs of thrust. You can't go wrong with more HP, and keeping it below 55 lbs of thrust will mean you only need a single battery. You can always build a bracket, rather than sit the motor directly on the transom, check out Binkie's personal page for photos' http://www.whalercentral.com/infusion...ser_id=802
You did not say if you were installing a bow mount or transom mount. I have a Minn Kota Edge bow mount, hand control 45lb thrust with a 45" shaft on my 1973 sport 13. This setup has worked great for me. Academy Sports has them for $269.
