I took my viper prop to the prop repair guy and he said it was really too beat up to be worth fixing. The numbers on the prop are 13 7/8x17. I have found one on craigslist that is a solas stainless for $125 that looks to be in good condition. It is a 13.5x15. I use my boat mainly for fishing and it has a 2000 johnson 115. Will this prop work well on my 16'7 custom? If so I plan to go get it at lunch. Thanks!
Your handling chararistics will change, if your present prop is the correct one (that is: WOT is correct with your present prop) Then this prop proposed will let you over rev your motor, you will loose top end speed. You will gain low end torque. I would say that if your previous prop was correct spend the money and replace it with the same diameter and pitch as the last prop.
There is not such thing as a "correct" prop for a given boat/motor combination, just propellers that are better than others.
The BRP Viper is better than the Solas New Saturn for a 16'-7" Whaler and, in the case of the Viper and the New Saturn, dropping forom 17" pitch to 15" will throw the performance of your boat off even more.
A Johnson 115 on a 16'-7" Whaler should be running a 19" or 21" pitch prop is using a BRP prop or a 17" or 19" pitch if using a Stiletto or Turbo.
If you want to use a Solas prop, a better choice would be the Titan or Titan HR3.
