I read the article posted by Joe Kriz on June 10, 2006 regarding the clamshells installed partially over the 1" drain holes on the bottom of Whalers.
I would like to hear some discussion regarding actual installation of the clamshell to the boat hull. Any details one should pay particular attention to? What should be done if one or several of the screw holes is stripped? Or is it a typical installation? I.E., install the clamshell with 5200 in the holes and along the flange of the clamshell? If the screw holes are stripped should they be filled with Marine-tex or thickened epoxy? ?
If the screw holes are stripped, fix with Marine-Tex but I would use boatlife caulk or 4200. You might actually want them off if you need to replace the drain tubes in the future.
Thanks Kamie, I am only going to do the clamshell in conjunction with doing the drain tube. I am going to follow the suggestion in the other thread about doing all drain tubes at once while I am geared up to do drain tubes.
