I want to replace my auxiliary Mercury 2 stroke 8hp. Where can I find information comparing the various models?
Things I’m hoping to see is who makes the various models, weight comparison, engine size, and shifting methods.
I put a Yamaha F6 long shaft on my 1989 Montauk, I think it weighs 85 lbs, f8 weighs the same but no need and not sure the transom would handle it. The with the long shaft you can mount directly on the transom and no oil mixing.
I'm pleased with the F6 but when I replace it I'd consider a 2 or 4 hp 4 stroke to save a few lbs if I could get it in a long shaft.
Mine is a 2001 long shaft, pretty sure it's 85 lbs but if the newer ones are lighter then all the better. I know the 2 strokes are a lot lighter but mixing oil was a deal breaker for me.
