I started a thread about buying a motor in a previous thread. I did not want to start a new thread in an old thread. Anyway, I am purchasing a motor about 300 miles from my house. I really dont want take the boat on a 600 mile round trip. Would it be okay to lay the motor flat in the bed of a truck to transport it home, as long as it is properly cushioned?
Thanks,
John

If it is a 2 stroke you will be fine. I do not know anything about transporting a four stroke.

Four strokes typically need to laid on one side but not the other. Read the placard on the motor (if it is a small motor) or the motor's Owner's Manual for instruction on this point.

You'll be good to go laying it in its side.

An OMC 60 hp three cylinder two stroke can be transported without any problems resting on it's side. What you do not want to do, especially if there is residual water in the exhaust, is raise the lower unit higher than the powerhead. I suggest you elevate the powerhead slighly higher than the lower unit when loading into the truck. Tie it down good too. There is nothing worse than a 250lb projectile when you have to brake hard.
