Hi,
I am new here with a new to me 1998 Dauntless 15. I have been looking over lots of things on the site. A lot of nice looking boats and info.
My Dauntless has a 1998 75 hp carbed mercury on it. The prop on it looks rough and either needs to be reworked or replaced.
That leads to my question. It is a Ballistic 3 blade prop that is 13 3/8 "
X 19 pitch. The back reads attwood 335132. The motor has a Plastic hydrofoil on it. The motor has 5 mounting holes. It is currently mounted in the second hole from the top.
I was hoping to hear from someone that might have been thru this process and figured out what prop gave the best over all performance. Seeing the hydrofoil on it makes me think maybe there is a better prop for it?

Welcome to Whaler Central.

You might want to read this parallel thread:

For a Mercury 75 HP two stroke (which is an intermediate, 4.25" size gearcase motor) there is no Star with great enough pitch so you would need to got to a four blade to get the larger blade area and stern lift your boat will benefit from.

The only four balde Mercury offers for a 4.25" gearcase is the Trophy Plus, a bass boat prop. It might be OK.

A better propeller would be the Turbo Quest 4 in the 13-1/8" x 19" or, *maybe* the 13-1/8" x 20" size.

Well it took a while but I finally got to try the new prop I bought. I looked around the web hunting a stainless 4 blade prop like recommended.
I finally ran across a Mercury Spitfire in a 12.5 x 19 pitch 4 blade aluminum. Reading the advertisement for it there seem to be no better prop to be had. The price was right $150 delivered and it was new so I thought it would be worth trying as a starting place.
Seem to work well on my boat. I was turning 5200 rpms on the tachometer and 41 mph on the gps. It was cold and rough so I only ran full power enough to get an idea of what it could do. I am very interested to try it out in nicer conditions.
I tried to get the prop to blowout in various turns and it held whatever I did.
I will report back after I use it for a while and see how it handles varying loads and conditions. I was happy after using it, I was not sure how it was going to do.
I also removed the hydrofoil before trying the prop. I am going to try and get the boat set up without one.
Thanks for the help so far.
