WOW what a great site!! I'm so glad I found this place. I'm trying to remove 2 coats of bottom paint from the hull of my 1987 13 SS. Any suggestions on a product that won't attack the fiberglass?? I want to strip it now that it's going to be a trailer queen.

BTW I'm doing a full clean up of the boat, stripped it bare last night. The wood is all there but it has lots of discoloring from lack of maintenance over the years. I am in the process of making all new woodwork for the hull; I'm using all the old parts as templates.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

John

13SS Welcome,

Here is a link to the threads regrading the stripping and painting process I just went through.

I used peel-away and was happy with the product. It was $53 at Lowes for a gallon and it took 2 gallons for my 22 Outrage.

John,

Your 13 sounds like a great project. I stripped the bottom of the 25 Outrage and restored the hull shine. Its a trailer boat now...Big job, I should have photographed my progressFrown I used "Kwik" ($7 per quart, True-Value) very strong stuff. It worked well for me, I didn't leave it on long enough to harm the gelcoat. What ever product you decide to use, test it on a small area first. Good luck, keep us posted on your progress!
