I was gone to north carolina since friday ,returned with a 2008 montauk 190. Very happy with it. Can someone tell me if I messed up on adding red stabil? I knew that this boat will be sitting four months,I added one small bottle ,which teats 20 gal. There was 50 gal in the tank. I didnt want gas to go stale, I was going to add more at home. But when I took boat to a mercury dealer to winterize down there,he said I shouldnt have put that in there. So my question is has anyone ever put red stabil in with there gas ,and it turned out not to be a problem with a verado engine? The 50 gal that was in there was ethanol free gas. Im hoping it will be okay,if I had to I would siphon gas out for my truck if I need to,which would be alot of work . This dealer scared me about having put it in there said it can mess up a verado, thanks for some advise. I hope im just being overly cautious with this new to me boat.
The red Stabil will do no harm. The marine version has, I believe, a longer life. I would fill the tank and add sufficient Marine Stabil for 60 gallons.
The Verado is a fine engine but it is supercharged and finely tuned. That is not an engine to "cheap out" on. Visit veradoclub.com for some great information on how to treat that engine. In particular look into the battery recommendations.
Thanks for replys,he said it has gelled up in lines and with this supercharged engine it was bad for it. I paid $280 to have it winterized, dont know the going rate, but I wanted it done before coming home. After being told that, I was disgusted on the 10 hr ride home thinking I messed up. Im going to find a certified merc dealer in my area for next season. It was the regular red stabil,I bought another large bottle before I talked to him, I was going to add more to the correct amount for 50 gal,but then he told me all that . I was hoping to hear on here that people have used it in verados without major problems Im feeling better now.
My Yamaha dealer told me the gel problem with stabil is if you mix it with a different brand of additive. He said whichever additive you choose, stick with it. If you want to change additives, use all of the fuel in your tank before trying a different additive.
